StoryCorps' mobile recording booth opened to story tellers in Columbia, SC, on October 18th, beginning its one-month stay. Columbia Mayor Stephen BenjaminSCETV's President and CEO Linda O'Bryon, and StoryCorps MobileBooth Manager Stacey Todd spoke to a crowd near Edventure near the SC State Museum.

South Carolinians who want to record and share their stories can make reservations for time in the booth on the StoryCorps website or at 1-800-850-4406. The Dean of USC's College of Information and Communication, Charles Bierbauer, and his wife, Susanne Schafer, took the first session to tell their story.

Thelisha Eaddy attended the opening and talked to some  of the participants about what StoryCorps is, and what it hopes to do while in South Carolina.

With the permission of the participants, edited stories from each booth are broadcast on a partner public radio station. Selected stories are produced for StoryCorps for national broadcast on NPR’s Morning Edition

The StoryCorps MobileBooths travel across the country, partnering with local public radio stations in various cities for one month at a time. StoryCorps Mobile Tour began May 19, 2005. On October 23, StoryCorps celebrates the 30th anniversary of their first recording booth in New York's Grand Central Terminal.

Since its founding in 2003, StoryCorps has collected and archived more than 60,000 interviews from more than 100,000 participants from across the country who visit one of our recording sites. It is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind.

Interviews recorded are added to the StoryCorps Archive, housed at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
