Food Safety 5

If you’re a new parent and have decided to use infant formula, you should be aware that formula, whether it’s powder, liquid concentrate, or ready-to-feed, can become contaminated during preparation and handling. So follow these rules when feeding your child to make sure they are safe.  First always start by washing your hands.  You’ll want to sterilize your bottles in boiling water before the first use, but after that, they can be safely cleaned in the dishwasher or sink.  Prepare your baby’s meal in a clean area to prevent cross-contamination, and throw out any formula that’s been sitting at room temperature for more than two hours.  Don’t save unfinished formula because bacteria from a baby’s mouth can be introduced into the bottle and can grow even when refrigerated.
