Bee Friendly Gardening

Earthsense

Perhaps you’ve heard the news stories confirming the number of bees in on the decline.  This is a major problem not only for the flowers in your garden, but also because it affects the crops we grow and the food we eat.  So help your local bee population by following a few simple steps

First, know your plants and choose indigenous plants that will thrive in our warm climate while attracting and sustaining the bees in your area.  Second, know what types of pests may cause problems in your garden and target those rather than using an all-purpose insecticide that can wreak havoc on even the helpful insects.  In fact, try to stay away from chemical pesticides all together and find eco-friendly ways to deter pests like spreading egg shells to deter slugs.  Or use nature’s predators to control unwanted pests.  For example, lady bugs can help rid your garden of aphids.
