Summer Window Tips

Earthsense

Keeping your HVAC system in tip top shape and managing your thermostat settings are great ways to help keep you cool this summer while helping keep costs down.  But have you inspected your windows lately?  If not, there may be some things that you can do to stay cool in your home.  For example, using a white or light colored curtains or blinds will reflect sunlight away from your windows and a thermal curtain can help stave off energy losses.

Keep your curtains closed during the hottest portions of the day.  Make sure your windows are properly sealed on the outside and replace the caulking if needed.  Try installing awnings on south and west facing windows and if you can afford to, replace single paned windows with more efficient double pane windows.  This can get expensive depending on the number and type of windows you choose, but its well worth the investment!
