Rain Barrel Tips

Earthsense

Water shortages are becoming a real problem across the country, and that’s why many people are turning to the centuries-old practice of collecting rain water as an alternative source of water.

Did you know that you can collect up to six hundred gallons of water from just one inch of rainfall on a one thousand square foot roof?  And stored rain water can be used to water plants, wash the car (or the pets), fill a swimming pool, or if properly filtered, used for bathing and drinking.  Rain barrel collection systems are getting fairly easy to find at hardware stores and online, or you can make your own from recycled food-grade containers.  Your collections system can be as simple as a barrel and a down spout or sophisticated enough to supply all your water needs.
