Citadel Employee Accused of Sexually Abusing Former Cadet

Kenneth Gregory Boes
Charleston County

An employee with Charleston’s military college, the Citadel, is accused of giving a former cadet alcohol and pills, and sexually assaulting him.  Kenneth Gregory Boes is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct following an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

An arrest affidavit says the alleged assaults reportedly began last summer after the 56 year-old became work out partners with the student.  It says Boes tried to forcibly kiss the cadet in September 2017 at his campus office.  It goes on to describe another alleged encounter at the defendant’s on campus residence two months later.  That’s where authorities say Boes gave the victim alcohol and two white pills.  They say the student was sexually assaulted and blacked out.  The affidavit also says Boes continued to abuse the cadet on multiple occasions using his position of authority and coercion.

School officials say Boes was a TAC officer at the school, advising and coaching cadets as part of its leadership training program.  They say the SLED investigation began in May and they have been cooperating ever since.

The school has initiated a Title IX investigation, handled by an outside investigator.  Citadel officials have asked anyone who may have been a victim or a witness in connection with this case to contact SLED.

Boes was arrested Wednesday and appeared before a judge who set bond at $25,257.  Boes was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
