Freeze Warnings Issued for Parts of Pee Dee

National Weather Service
Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories Tonight

Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories are in effect for parts of the Pee Dee region as a blast of chilly air is expected to lower temperatures to near freezing overnight into Thursday.

Some of the coldest weather of the season is expected tonight as a strong high pressure builds over the region, directing cold and dry northerly winds into the state which will drop temperatures to below average.

Parts of the northeast Pee Dee region are under a Freeze Warning beginning at midnight Thursday and lasting until 9 a.m. EDT. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are expected. Coastal Pee Dee Regions including the cities of Georgetown and Myrtle Beach are under a Frost Advisory where temperatures are expected to lower into the mid 30s, resulting in patchy frost formation early Thursday morning. The National Weather Service warns that freezing temperatures could damage outdoor plumbing and harm or kill crops or other sensitive vegetation. Outdoor water pipes should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly to prevent possible bursting. Residents that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Temperatures in the Pee Dee region will trend below average through Thursday with highs in the mid to upper 50s and lows in the 30s. The high pressure will begin to move eastward into the Atlantic with winds becoming more easterly, allowing temperatures to rebound to more seasonable levels by the weekend. High temperatures will be hovering near 70 degrees Friday and through the weekend with overnight lows in the mid 40s.
