Lexington Drain Tagging

Lexington County is looking for a few good volunteers this month to help tag storm water drains.  Did you know that rainwater runoff is the leading cause of pollution in our waterways? You may think that rainwater runoff is treated at the same plant where waste water is treated, but the reality is that those storm drains lead directly to our streams, rivers, and lakes.  This also means that any fertilizer, pet waste, trash, pesticides, and chemicals that are in your yard or in the street also get picked up along the way.  During the month of September, you or even your organization can take part in what Lexington County is calling storm drain tagging month.  Your group will go out and tag storm drains with markers stating "No dumping...drains to waterway".
