On select weekend nights throughout the year, Congaree National Park in Richland County offers the public a glimpse – or, more accurately, usually an earful – of nature when it conducts its popular Owl Prowls.
Park Ranger Jon Manchester leads groups through the state’s only national park to hear owls calling in the night, and to learn more along the trail about these fascinating nocturnal birds which display impressive adaptations to their habitats, including sight, hearing and silent flight. Manchester say that the goal of the program is to get people outdoors and more in touch with their surroundings.
