Hello, I’m Amanda McNulty with Clemson Extension and Making It Grow. Finding the right gift, getting it wrapped, and in my case this year, shipped, are enough stress during the holiday season. We usually go to Los Angeles to visit with our three kids, but this year we’re staying home alone. For table decorations we have holly berries, holly fern, cuttings from a Thanksgiving cactus which still has flowers, and interesting sticks I can hang small Christmas tree balls from. Our Thanksgiving cactus lives outside in the summer and on our unheated half-glass back porch in the winter. We don’t pay any attention to it, but it usually has some flowers at Christmas. Real Christmas cacti are very hard to find, they’re more finicky, and only skilled growers can manipulate the temperature and light conditions to have them in full bloom at Christmas.
