With six massive columns, a strikingly symmetrical façade, and a remote location outside of Pinewood, SC, Millford has captured the eye since its completion in 1841. But on Saturday, September 23rd, the Greek Revival house and National Historic Landmark also captured the ear with The Classical Ideal: Music and Architecture in Harmony.

The event was part of a series presented in historic homes along the east coast by the Classical American Homes Preservation Trust and the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation, and included a concert, a lecture, and tours of the house and grounds. The Sumter High School Orchestra also held an open rehearsal at Millford on Friday, September 22nd.

In this segment that aired Tuesday, October 24th, Bradley Fuller shares highlights from the concert, as well as interviews with Robert deMaine, artistic director of the series, and Nic Butler, who gave a pre-concert lecture on art, music, and culture in the Antebellum South.
