“G” is for Gibbons, Leeza (b.1957). Television-radio host, producer. A native of Hartsville, Gibbons was reared in Irmo. In 1982 she graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in journalism. She entered broadcast journalism as a host of PM Magazine in Dallas, Texas. She also worked for NPR in Columbia. After co-hosting a program in New York City, Gibbons entered the national spotlight in 1984 as a reporter-anchor on Entertainment Tonight, a nationally syndicated television program. Later, she became executive producer of her own program Leeza, which ran from 1994 to 2000 on NBC. In 1994 she formed Leeza Gibbons Enterprises to develop and produce special projects. One of these was My Generation on PBS that won a Daytime Emmy in 2013. Leeza Gibbons founded the Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation to fight Alzheimer’s disease.
