A powerful winter storm is charging through the southeast early this week, bringing potential for extreme rain rates and possible flash flooding for nearly all sections of the state. All of the Upstate, Midlands and parts of the Lowcountry are under a Flood Watch through this evening.
Much of the state is expected to pick up 2-3” inches of rain through Monday night, with locally higher amounts possible. Excessive run off from thunderstorms could overwhelm drainage and lead to flash flooding. Creeks and streams could rise out of their banks
The threat for heavy rain will decrease later in the night and rain should end early Tuesday morning. Strong winds will continue as well, with sustained winds remaining 20-30 mph, and gusts up to 45 mph. In the wake of this storm, dry weather is expected through the remainder of the work week.
