Debby has produced heavy rainfall across the Lowcountry, with some spots receiving over 15 inches of rain. Heavy rainfall has been the main player across the Pee Dee on Thursday as Debby moved inland and gained forward speed. In fact, Debby has doubled its speed from yesterday and it's been moving above 10 mph on Thursday afternoon with more speed on the way.
In the 5 p.m. advisory, Debby is now a tropical depression. This means that Debby has lost maximum sustained winds, but the heavy rains will continue to affect the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast during the next 24 hours. The risk for heavy rains moves with the system and some areas in the Mid-Atlantic can expect up to 8 inches of rain, high flood risk is in the forecast for them.
Rain bands will continue to affect South Carolina through Friday late afternoon. Any additional rain could exacerbate the flooding, even if the water has receded a bit, the grounds will still be very saturated. There could be up to 3 inches of additional rain through Saturday morning, especially along the Pee Dee.
Remember that rivers and creeks will continue to rise at least through the middle of next week. Additional rainfall will keep their levels high.
We continue to monitor this system closely please turn in to our radio and TV stations for the latest on what’s happening in South Carolina.
