The best way to avoid a home fire is to take preventative measures.  Many home fires start in the kitchen, so stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling or broiling food.  And put that grill a safe distance away from your eaves, deck railings, and overhanging branches.

Smokers, be aware of your surroundings and make sure cigarette butts are properly snuffed out.  You’ll want to replace any appliances with faulty or frayed wiring, and remember that any intentional fire, whether it’s in the fireplace or in your yard, should be completely extinguished before you leave the house or go to bed.  Remember to test your smoke alarm batteries monthly and be sure that there are smoke alarms on every level of your home.  And keep storage areas clear of clutter..recycle old magazines or newspapers.
