In 1764, a French doctor immigrated to our state and eventually acquired over 2,000 acres of land near McCormick, SC, not far from the Savannah River. When he passed away in 1797, his will established an agricultural seminary for 12 poor boys and 12 poor girls. This year, that school has now been designated as the third Governor’s School in our state, and named after that immigrant physician, with a unique mission of teaching agriculture.
