Foods to Eat When You're Sick

You’ve heard the old adage, feed a cold and starve the flu.  But this may not me the best way to get well.  Whether it’s a cold or the flu, these are some foods you’ll want to eat to get you feeling better quicker. Many people think of chicken soup to help ease the flu, and there’s good reason for this.  It’s a warm liquid, which helps the throat feel better, but it’s also packed with protein and may have mild anti-inflammatory effects.  You’ll also need to keep hydrated when sick, so reach for 100% fruit juice, or antioxidant rich vegetable juice.  While you may not feel up to eating, try to munch a turkey sandwich to help give your body the energy it needs to fight off illness.  Garlic can help boost your immune system, while ginger or a banana can help stave off the feelings of nausea and upset stomach.
