Winter Blues

Earthsense

Short days and long nights can lead to a problematic case of the winter blues!  With less sunlight people tend to have less energy and are more prone to Seasonal Affective Disorder or winter depression.

This condition affects ten to twenty per cent of Americans, but if you’re starting to feel glum, take these steps to beat the blues.  Sleep well and try to keep a schedule even on the weekends.  Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day helps to keep your internal clock in sync.  Get as much exposure to light as possible.  Take a brisk afternoon walk in the sunshine, or open the blinds to let in natural light.  And embrace an exercise routine as regular exercise can reduce stress and help relieve anxiety caused by the extended hours of nighttime.  Learn to manage your stress and take time to relax each day to avoid overeating and depression.
