Update on May 26: Due to overwhelming response, the deadline for submitting your version of the Morning Edition theme has been extended until the end of June. Among the recent submissions: a bluegrass version, a Morning Edition rap and an electronic version that imagines the show is hosted from space.

All submissions are on SoundCloud with the hashtag #morningeditiontheme. To create your own remix or new arrangement, scroll down to listen to or download Morning Edition themes and submit it using the Google form at the end of this post.

Update onMay 2: It's been a week sinceMorning Edition challenged musicians to reinvent its theme music. So far, the submissions span genres: ambient, dubstep, reggae, waltz, jazz, blues — even an 8-bit rendition that sounds like it's plucked from a video game.

And you can hear more submissions on SoundCloud and also submit your own with hashtag #morningeditiontheme through the end of May. We'll continue to listen to them and air our favorites in the coming weeks.

Original Post:Morning Editionis calling on listeners to create their own versions of the theme. Pick your genre: rock, hip-hop, R&B, country, even EDM. You can create a new arrangement of one of our themes or remix one.

Regular Morning Editionlisteners have heard the familiar theme song composed by BJ Leiderman every weekday morning since the show's first broadcast in 1979.

Over the years, we've had variations of that theme recorded, some of which you hear on the air, like the music for our "returns," those 30-second news bites that air every hour on the half-hour.

But there are other versions you never hear, like the short riff that recalls the smooth jazz stylings of saxophonist Kenny G. There's also a jaunty sting that we call "Cokie's Theme," and the "Jazz Theme," which might make you think of a '60s talk show.
