Budget Gardening

Earthsense

Landscaping can be expensive, but with a little time and effort, you can create a backyard oasis on a budget.  First, take some time to plan your landscaping.  Draw a map of your yard and consider where you’ll get the most impact from large plants.  The best way to save money on landscaping is to do it yourself and you’ll enjoy the therapeutic benefits as well.

Offset the cost of buying plants by choosing species that will come back year after year and varieties that spread as they grow.  Indigenous plants will grow best as they’re already well suited to the climate.  Instead of spending a small fortune to pave paths through your sanctuary, think about using gravel, pebbles, or a sand-shell mix.  Not only will it be less expensive to install, but pervious paving allows rainwater to be reabsorbed back into your yard.
