Hello, I’m Amanda McNulty with Clemson Extension and Making It Grow. When I was little, having corn on the cob was somewhat of a production as almost everyone had these little gizmos you stuck in both ends of the cob to keep your fingers from getting hot. You can get them in all sorts of designs, funky or sculpture. We don’t use them anymore, but it doesn’t slow us down from enjoying that summertime treat. Maybe we used them in times past as we boiled corn up in a big pot of water; now I steam it – perhaps the cobs don’t get so hot. I use a stick of butter and run it over every cob before serving. Now it’s fashionable to grill corn, but to me, you lose that absolutely fresh sweet taste, and it’s a lot of trouble.
