The Columbia Police Department said a person of interest is in custody after a morning shooting on Nov. 11 on the 2700 block of Middleburg Drive, near Planned Parenthood's facility.

The Columbia Police Department said a person of interest is in custody after a morning shooting on Nov. 11 that occurred near Planned Parenthood.

The Columbia Police Department said one person was injured and another detained after a shooting Friday that occurred in a parking lot adjacent to Planned Parenthood's facility.

Columbia Police Department Capt. P.J. Blendowski said police responded around 10:45 a.m. to the 2700 block of Middleburg Drive, where they found one man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Blendowski said the man, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition.

Another man, who also was not identified, was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for further questioning, Blendowski said.

Columbia police said the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no public threat.

Yellow crime scene tape surrounded the parking lot and part of the road next to and in front of the Planned Parenthood facility.

Police were seen photographing a red two-door Hyundai within the crime scene tape.

A multi-colored umbrella and sign with Planned Parenthood's name could be seen within the crime scene tape near the entrance to the parking lot.

Blendowski said investigators were still working to determine whether the shooting had any connection at all to Planned Parenthood. He said police also could not say whether the shooting was the result of an altercation.

"That's what we're working to identify at this time," Blendowski said.

Planned Parenthood has two South Carolina locations: one in Charleston and one in Columbia, located on a stretch of road with several office buildings.

Planned Parenthood said all staff, patients and volunteers at the facility were safe and were not involved in the shooting incident.

"This situation is still developing, and at this moment, we don't know the full circumstances behind this shooting. We do know that all of our staff, patients, and volunteers are safe," said Paige Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood South Atlantic. "Planned Parenthood South Atlantic has strong security measures in place, and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies as they manage the situation."
