Three more more people have contracted measles in the Upstate. Two of the cases are from known illnesses in the same household. The origin of the third has not yet been determined.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) confirmed Friday three additional cases of measles in the Upstate. The total number of illnesses reported in the current outbreak is now at 52. In all, 55 cases have been reported to DPH this year.

Two of the new cases are related to sick members of the same household. The origin of the third has not yet been determined.

DPH also is alerting the public to more possible exposures following an identified case in an employee of the Greenville Spartanburg International Airport (GSP), as well as a confirmed illness from someone who was sick while attending the Way of Truth Church in Inman.

DPH advises that GSP visitors on Nov. 10 and 11 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. (both days) may have been exposed, while individuals attending the Way of Truth evening service on Nov. 7 and Sunday service on Nov. 9 could also be at risk of becoming sick.

Potential exposures, especially in non-immune or unvaccinated individuals, should monitor for symptoms through Nov. 30 if at the church or Dec. 2 if at the airport.

State health officials say there is growing concern of increased transmission through the holidays. DPH is therefore offering another vaccination opportunity next week at no cost. On Monday, staff will be administering MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccines at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Spartanburg from noon - 3 p.m.
