The South Carolina Department of Public Health says three more people in the Upstate have become ill, bringing the total number of measles cases in the current outbreak to 55. The department encourages the public to be mindful amid the holiday season.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) announced Tuesday three new measles cases in the Upstate, bringing the total number of illnesses in the current outbreak to 55. In all, 58 cases have been reported to DPH this year.

State health officials say two of the individuals live in the same household of known cases, while the origin of the third has not yet been identified.

Currently, there are 136 people in quarantine and two in isolation—many from area schools. DPH reports those impacted have been notified accordingly, and individuals who quarantine successfully without becoming ill can return to school Nov. 29.

Also new to report, a potential public exposure related to the Spartanburg County Treasurer's Office. According to DPH, non-immune and unvaccinated individuals who visited the office on Nov. 17 or 18 during normal business hours, may be impacted.
Symptoms should be monitored through Dec. 9.

DPH encourages mindfulness amid Thanksgiving and increased gatherings during the holiday season.

At this time, no additional vaccination events have been scheduled in Spartanburg County. DPH's Mobile Health Unit may be requested by completing this form.
