The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the death of a University of South Carolina student whose body was discovered Tuesday night.

Authorities have identified the woman found dead Tuesday night at a University of South Carolina apartment complex.

Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford says the body of 18-year-old Eliana Peterson was discovered at the 650 Lincoln student apartments. The discovery led to a heavy police presence that temporarily shut down a portion of Lincoln Street during a USC basketball game.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is leading the investigation at the request of campus police. SLED agents say the case remains active and ongoing. A cause of death has not yet been released.
