Beverly Clyburn remembered for leadership, compassion and commitment to public service

Beverly Clyburn, who served more than two decades on Aiken City Council, died on Friday. She was 81.

The Georgetown native whose career spanned decades as an educator in Aiken and Allendale counties was remembered by the city of Aiken as someone whose legacy will be known by leadership, compassion and commitment to public service.

Tributes poured in over the weekend, including from Republican U-S Senator Lindsey Graham, a family friend who called Clyburn a passionate public servant who was always gracious.

Clyburn was married to South Carolina state Representative Bill Clyburn, an Aiken Democrat, who announced last month that he will not seek reelection this year to the General Assembly after serving more than three decades.
