One person is dead and another injured after a small plane crash in Lexington County Friday morning.
The Lexington County Fire Chief says county communications received a distress call shortly after 9:15 a.m. Emergency units dispatched to the scene located the aircraft in a wooded area about 15 minutes later.
Officials say the plane was trying to land at Whiteplains Airport in Gilbert. The Lexington County Coroner confirmed one of the two people on board died at the scene. The second person was taken to a local hospital. No one on the ground was injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
