Plastic container manufacturer, George Utz Inc., will establish the company's first South Carolina operation in Sumter County. The investment is about $40 million and will create 50 jobs.
The company plans to build a 90,000-square-foot facility at Race Track Rd. and U.S. Highway 21 in Sumer to produce rigid returnable packaging. Operations are slated to begin in 2028.
With more than 75 years of experience in the production of returnable plastic containers, pallets, component holders and custom solutions, George Utz is a wholly owned subsidiary of Switzerland-based Utz Group. The company currently also operates a facility in Indiana.
