The Anderson County Sheriff's Office made the announcement Monday in connection with a 2001 murder.

After 24 years, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man for murder in connection with the 2001 death of 29-year-old Jennifer Lawson.

Lawson was shot and killed in June 2001 while attending a party in Belton.

Andretti Goss, 55, is charged with murder, assault and battery with intent to kill, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and discharging firearms into a dwelling. He was denied bond and remains in custody at the Anderson County Detention Center.

Detectives said during the June evening, three unfamiliar men arrived in a dark-colored sedan and got into an argument with an individual at the party. After being asked to leave, the men fired at least one shot. That bullet passed through a trailer wall, struck a man in the shoulder and fatally struck Lawson in the head.

Her case was reopened over the summer, according the announcement.

“This case is a testament to the persistence and dedication of our investigators,” Sheriff Chad McBride said. “Our Cold Case Unit is committed to giving a voice to victims who can no longer speak for themselves and to seeking justice, no matter how much time has passed.”

The case remains an active investigation with more arrests possible.
