The Federal Emergency Management Agency is distributing nearly $20 million for flood resiliency projects across the southeast.

South Carolina will receive $162,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support flood mitigation efforts in Hilton Head. The federal assistance is part of nearly $20 million in FEMA funding for flood resiliency projects across the southeast.

South Carolina's portion is designated for Hilton Head Island's National Flood Insurance Program to elevate one Repetitive Loss (RL) property—or one with at least two paid, flood-related losses of more than $1,000 each in a 10 year period.

Other approved projects in the southeast include:

$2.3 million to Florida to elevate six properties located in Santa Rosa County.

$1.5 million to Alabama for the acquisition and demolition of four Hoover properties to alleviate future claims.

$460,887 to Mississippi to fund phase one of flood mitigation efforts in Madison County.

$416,200 to Kentucky for the acquisition and demolition of five RL properties in Wayland.

In all, FEMA has distributed $250 million to support more than 100 flood mitigation projects nationwide through its Flood Mitigation Assistance program and Swift Current.
