The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting in the investigation of missing Lexington woman after a body was discovered Wednesday in a wooded area off Old Cherokee Road.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is assisting the Lexington Police Department and Lexington County Sheriff's Department in the case of a missing Lexington woman.

SLED was asked to investigate by both agencies after a body was found during a search for Elena Katherine Moore, 39, Wednesday in a wooded area off Old Cherokee Road. Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green says the clothing on the body matches that of what Moore was last seen wearing — an olive green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants.

Moore was reported missing on Friday, June 12. She was last seen walking away from the Planet Fitness on Whiteford Way on the evening of Thursday, June 11, toward the wooded area behind Lowe's Home Improvement.

The Lexington County coroner is working to positively identify the body.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 1-888-CRIME-SC or submit a tip at www.midlandscrimestoppers.com.
