Sean Birch brings his passion for engaging audiences and delivering high-quality radio and podcast content to his role as Director of South Carolina Public Radio. Working with his team, he guides the creation programming which informs, entertains and reflects the many communities across the Palmetto State. He also chooses the national programming heard on our stations and oversees the day-to-day operations of our statewide radio network.

Esther is a KUNR alum, who left the station in mid-October to take the afternoon host position at WBHM public radio in the much larger market of Birmingham, AL. She's excited for the career opportunity, where she will also be closer to family.

A. T. Shire
AT Shire studied guitar performance at Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania. He received his Audio Engineering degree from the Institute of Audio Research in New York City, then worked in many Jazz Clubs and music studios in Manhattan, including the famed Birdland Jazz Club where he worked with names such as Michael Feinstein, Arturo O’Farrill, and Wynton Marsalis.

Ben Philpott
Ben Philpott covers politics and policy for KUT 90.5 FM. He has been covering state politics and dozens of other topics for the station since 2002. He's been recognized for outstanding radio journalism by the Radio and Television News Directors Association, Public Radio News Directors Incorporated, the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters and twice by the Houston Press Club as Radio Journalist of the Year. Before moving to Texas, he worked in public radio in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Ala., and at several television stations in Alabama and Tennessee. Born in New York City and raised in Chattanooga, Tenn., Philpott graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in broadcast journalism.

Before joining NHPR in February of 2015, Jason interned with a variety of public radio organizations including StoryCorps, Transom.org, and WBHM in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Bennington College with a degree in philosophy and sound design.

Melodie Edwards graduated with an MFA from the University of Michigan on Colby Fellowship where she received two Hopwood Awards in fiction and nonfiction. Glimmer Trainpublished “Si-Si-Gwa-D” in 2002 where it was one of the winners of their New Writers fiction contest. She has published stories in South Dakota Quarterly, North Dakota Review, Michigan Quarterly, Prairie Schooner, Crazyhorseand others. She is the recipient of the Doubleday Wyoming Arts Council Award for Women. “The Bird Lady” aired on NPR's Selected Shorts and Prairie Schoonernominated the story for a Pushcart Prize. She has a story upcoming in an anthology of animal stories, published by Ashland Creek Press. She is the author of "Hikes Around Fort Collins," now in its third printing. She is circulating Outlawry,a novel about archeology theft in the 1930's with publishing houses. She is currently working on a young adult trilogy about a secret society of crows and ravens.
