South Carolina Department of Mental Health

  • Mental health has become a much-discussed topic in recent years. Those experiencing a mental health crisis often need someone who understands and has been where they are. A grant to the South Carolina Department of Mental Health aims to do just that.
  • The director of South Carolina's Department of Mental Health is giving up the post he's held for two years. The State reports Dr. Kenneth Rogers, a psychiatrist hired to run the agency in April 2020, announced last Thursday at an executive session of a meeting of the Mental health Commission that he'd be leaving the department effective Nov. 1. In a statement to agency staff, Rogers said he was moving on to a new opportunity but didn't disclose any details. The seven-member Mental Health Commission will select the agency's next director.
