LAMAR, S.C. (AP) — A deputy in South Carolina has been killed in an ambush while attempting to arrest a suspect. Authorities say Darlington County deputy Devin Mason and another officer were attacked inside a home near Lamar around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mason died, and the second officer is hospitalized in stable condition. The suspect, 25-year-old Cameron Ray Dennett, was also killed. Authorities say Dennett faced forgery, criminal conspiracy and computer crime charges and was barred from owning a gun. A 28-year-old woman facing similar charges was arrested unharmed. Mason graduated from the state criminal justice academy in March.
