Kitchen Water Tips

We’ve been talking about water conservation the past couple of days- from instant hot water heaters to simple measures like turning the water off while you brush your teeth, conserving water can be easy.  Here are some simple things that you can do to conserve water in the kitchen. Only run the dishwasher when it’s full and if you must rinse dishes before placing them in the dishwasher, use a bucket of water to rinse rather than continually running the water.  Instead of using the sink disposal which requires a lot of water to operate properly, start a compost pile for food waste.  Store drinking water in the refrigerator rather than running the tap waiting for the water to cool.  Instead of running water over meats to thaw them, plan ahead and thaw them in the refrigerator, or use your microwave’s defrost setting.  Small steps to conserve water make a big difference!
