Eco-Friendly Coffee

Most of us don’t start to feel human until our second of third cups of coffee, but don’t let apathy get in the way of your sustainability efforts!  Here are some ways to make your morning java green. Start by ditching the disposable paper cups and switch to a reusable mug or travel cup.  And if you’re forgoing the paper cup, think about getting rid of the paper filters too.  Find a reusable mesh filter for your coffee pot or try a French press which doesn’t require a filter.  Finding green ways to consume your coffee is great, but you should think about finding organic, fair trade, or shade grown coffee beans as well.  Check your labels to find the most socially and environmentally responsible morning blend.  And don’t forget those coffee grounds are great for your compost pile or flower garden supplying bacteria with the energy to decompose organic matter!
