Eco-Friendly Tea

Whether you enjoy a warm cup of tea with breakfast or iced tea on the patio, trying to green your tea drinking experience is a good idea.  Let’s start with that morning mug of warm tea.  Boil just the amount of water needed for one cup to avoid wasting energy. Try to find tea bags that biodegradable and unbleached and avoid bags with strings, staples or tags.  Or get away from single time use tea bags altogether by purchasing loose-leaf tea and use an infuser.  Next time you make iced tea try cold brewing it to cut down on energy usage.  For cold brewing, use about one and a half times more tea than you would for hot brewing.  Pour in cold water, place a lid on the pitcher and let it sit in the refrigerator for four to ten hours depending on your taste preference.  Just like your coffee, look for tea labels that boast environmentally and socially friendly practices.
