Plant Companions 1

As groceries continue to get more expensive, a growing number of Americans are beginning to grow their own fruits and vegetables in backyard gardens. If you’re planning your own backyard vegetable garden, consider which plants may or may not grow well together.  Just like in a natural eco-system, some plants provide nutrients, while others require them.  When planting carrots, good partners are lettuce, peas, and chives.  But carrots do not pair well with cabbage or strawberries.  Chile peppers do not pair well with cabbage either, but you can plant hot peppers along the borders of your garden to repel flying pests.  Onions and garlic pair well with tomatoes, beet roots, and strawberries but not with peas, beans, or parsley.
