Fire Safety 5: Considerations

Earthsense

Fire Safety is an important part of your family’s emergency plan, so take some time to prepare your family and your home for emergencies.  Build an emergency kit or update the one you have and make a family communications plan.

It’s a good idea to have either a video or pictures of items in your home for insurance purposes.  Keep these in a safe deposit box or a fire-proof safe.  Make copies of any important documents like birth certificates or insurance policies and keep them in a safe place or with someone you trust.  Keep your residence free of clutter and keep prevention in mind when landscaping.  Choose materials and plants that will contain fire rather than fuel and move any combustible materials like a wood pile, tarp coverings, and even lawn furniture not in use a safe distance from your home.
