Organic on a Budget

Earthsense

We all want the best foods for our families, but sometimes it’s hard to justify the cost when cheaper options are available.  So here are some tips for eating organic on a budget.  First, know which produce is counted among the dirty dozen- in other words the produce with the highest levels of pesticides, and which produce is ok not to buy organic.

Produce is less expensive if you purchase in season, buy in bulk especially if there’s a sale on staple items.  If you can be flexible, try to purchase things on special- organic meats that are close to the expiration date could be a real deal, just be prepared to cook or freeze them soon after purchase.  As organic options become more popular, stores are increasingly carrying generic options for popular items and this is a great way to save some money on good items.
