SC Lede: Sub-Variation Nation

The omicron variant isn’t the only surge South Carolina is experiencing right now; the seasonal flu (pictured) is also widespread across the state and more than 50 people out of more than 5,000 lab-confirmed flu cases have a coinfection with COVID.

BA.4 and BA.5, subvariants of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, are fueling a rise in cases in South Carolina and nationwide. Public health officials are urging folks, especially those over 50, to be current with their COVID vaccine shots and boosters.
