House Ethics Committee
The chairman of the Ethics Committee of the state House of Representatives says the committee has begun a formal inquiry concerning a complaint filed against a sitting member of the House.

 
VC Summer Nuclear Station
The U-S Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved Dominion Energy South Carolina’s application to extend the operating license for its’ V-C Summer Nuclear Station in Fairfield County for an additional 20 years.

The V-C Summer station has provided energy to customers of Dominion and Santee-Cooper for more than 40 years.
This latest extension, requested by Dominion and approved by the NRC , will continue operations in Jenkinsville, SC into 2062.

 
Homeland Security Advisory Council
Gov. McMaster will Chair the first meeting of President Donald Trump's Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC). The governor was appointed chair by the President back in April. Today's meeting will include swearing in of members; remarks from the governor and senior Department of Homeland Security leadership; along with discussion on the council's focus and tasks.

 
 
 
Gun Safety Parent Cafe`
This evening in the midlands, the first of three a gun safety parent cafe`s this month. The events are part of a grant through DJJ that looked at the top 6 counties in the state with the highest gun violence rates for youth. The Making Home a Refuge- Gun Safety Parent cafes take on Wednesdays (July 2 , 9, 16). from 6-8pm at the Rehoboth Baptist Church Community Resource Center on Hardscrabble Rd. in Columbia.

 
 
 
Latest WARN Report
The latest WARN report has been released. And over twenty five hundred people are being laid off across the palmetto state. According to the report, the most amount of layoffs comes from Limestone University with 478 people being let go from their positions. Limestones abrupt closure is followed by Compass Group USA in Spartanburg county, with 350 people being laid off. The third company with the most layoffs in our state comes from ASRC Federal in Charleston County with 319 jobs being let go.

The report also shows a total of eight companies permanently closing across South Carolina.
 
 
Graphic Novel about Robert Smalls
A new graphic novel chronicles the extraordinary life of South Carolina's Robert Smalls. Its called Defiant and it shines a light on the 23 year old successfully commandeering a Confederate Civil War ship and surrendering it to the Union Army. Smalls heroic actions delivered 17 black passengers (nine men, five women and three children) from slavery to freedom.
