Marlboro County School District is waiting for a formal decision whether the state Department of Education will take over the district’s finances. While they wait, enrollment has stopped.
GEORGETOWN HATE CRIME ORDINANCE
City of Georgetown unanimously passed the second and final reading of a hate crime ordinance. The city is now becomes the twentieth municipality in the state to have its own ordinance, joining other towns and cities such as Myrtle Beach, Lake City, Florence, Charleston and Columbia.
FUNDING TO BRIDGES
The state Department of Transportation Commission approved an updated $634 Million-dollar bridge construction and modernization program. SCDOT Secretary Justin Powell says the legislature approving an additional $200 Million dollars for bridges this year will accelerate the improvement program:
HARBSION SATE FOREST UPDATE
The South Carolina Forestry Commission announced Harbison forest will remain closed through Tuesday. The State Forest has been closed since Monday after two separate dog attacks occurred over the past weekend.
The Forestry commission also provided photos of the dogs today on their Facebook page. The commission is asking anyone who sees the dogs to be extremely cautious and to contact Columbia Animal Services at 803-776-7387.
MCMCASTER APPOINTS BODMAN
Governor Henry McMaster has appointed Margaret Fent Bodman as the next State Child Advocate to lead the Department of Children's Advocacy following the departure of former Child Advocate Amanda Whittle, who now serves as a Family Court Judge in the Second Judicial Circuit.
CLEMSON APPROVES BUDGET
Clemson University’s Board of Trustees approved the FY26 budget. in a statement, CFO Rick Petillo said the University remains financially strong, citing proactive expense management and the diligence of faculty and staff.
