The Outdoor Dream Foundation

Making It Grow Minute
SC Public Radio

Hello Gardeners, I’m Amanda McNulty with Clemson Extension and Making It Grow. While reading the Department of Natural Resource’s award-winning magazine, South Carolina Wildlife, I learned about a remarkable organization that DNR partners with. The Outdoor Dream Foundation is a non-profit group has the mission statement “To grant an outdoor adventure to children who have been diagnosed with terminal or life-threating diseases.” In these days when many kids are glued to electronic devices, a day spent exploring and perhaps hunting or fishing in the majesty, vastness, and quietness of our state’s natural areas, could bring a not only joy but a sense of the enduring cycles of nature of which we are a part. Thanks to our legislature, DNR now grant waivers for fishing and hunting licenses when affected children and their families are invited to join an Outdoor Dream Foundation hunting or fishing trip. Visit www.outdoordream.org to find out how you might participate.

She studied horticulture at Clemson University as a non-traditional student. “I’m so fortunate that my early attempts at getting a degree got side tracked as I’m a lot better at getting dirty in the garden than practicing diplomacy!” McNulty also studied at South Carolina State University and earned a graduate degree in teaching there.
