In a Facebook post Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman (R-5th) stood by his assertion that former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley “would have been an outstanding president.”
But now that Haley has suspended her campaign for the 2024 GOP nomination, Norman says he is looking forward to supporting Donald Trump, despite the often bitter campaign the former president waged against her.
In February, Norman told South Carolina Public Radio that Trump’s insults towards Haley – a longtime friend since their years in the South Carolina House of Representatives – amounted to little more than campaign politics.
He also said that anyone in a contemporary political race who cannot cope with insults on the campaign trail should rethink their candidacy.
“This is more than winning an election,” Norman said. “This is more than being on the receiving end of name-calling. If you’re scared of name-calling, if you’re scared to have somebody run against you, then get another line of work.”
On Wednesday, Norman told Fox that he will encourage Haley to get behind Trump and present a united Republican front against President Joe Biden this November.
