Congressman Joe Wilson was hospitalized Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, after experiencing "stroke-like" symptoms, according to his son, Attorney General Alan Wilson.

South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson was hospitalized on Tuesday in the Washington, D.C. area after experiencing stroke-like symptoms, his son Attorney General Alan Wilson said.

"I just spoke to my mom (Roxanne) who is currently at the hospital with my father. Doctors have confirmed to us that he has experienced stroke-like symptoms," Alan Wilson posted to X, formerly Twitter. "I was able to speak with him moments ago and I am incredibly thankful that he is stable and being monitored by medical professionals."

Wilson reportedly collapsed Tuesday while at an event before he was taken to the hospital.

Wilson, 77, has represented the Midlands-area 2nd Congressional District since 2001. Prior to Congress, Wilson served in the South Carolina state Senate. Weeks ago, Wilson campaigned on a district-wide bus tour before returning to Washington following the August recess.

Wilson faces Democrat David Robinson II in the Nov. 5 general election.
