In Helene-devastated Easley, neighbors helping neighbors is the road to recovery

Lawson Clary, the executive pastor at Five Point Church in Easley, drops off some lunch to Marlee Carey, just across the border in Anderson County. Carey had lost touch with family in Atlanta, but has finally been able to tell her sister she's fine.

Scott Morgan visited Easley, in Pickens County, Wednesday. He found neighbors helping neighbors locally and as far as Buncombe County, North Carolina — which was even more crippled by the storm.

Scott Morgan is the Upstate multimedia reporter for South Carolina Public Radio, based in Rock Hill. He cut his teeth as a newspaper reporter and editor in New Jersey before finding a home in public radio in Texas. Scott joined South Carolina Public Radio in March of 2019. His work has appeared in numerous national and regional publications as well as on NPR and MSNBC. He's won numerous state, regional, and national awards for his work including a national Edward R. Murrow.
