Republican incumbent Nancy Mace wins a third term representing the coastal 1st Congressional District.

Republican incumbent Nancy Mace is going back to Congress after easily defeating Democratic challenger and political newcomer Michael Moore.

The 46-year-old will serve a third term representing the 1st Congressional District which stretches along the state’s southern coast from Charleston to Beaufort.

Dozens of supporters were on hand as she addressed a gathering on Daniel Island around 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

“Ever since I first ran for office, I have puzzled everyone,” Mace said. “They want to know whose side is Nancy on.”

“I am on your side,” Mace said to a cheering crowd.

Mace was first elected in 2020 when she flipped the seat after Joe Cunningham made history in 2018 as the first Democrat to represent the district in decades.

This time, she won with a redrawn map that was intended to lean Republican and excludes some 30,000 Black voters.

Mace’s opponent, Michael Moore, touted his family’s history during his campaign. He is the great-great grandson of Civil War hero Robert Smalls.
