‘Tis the season when it seems just about everyone is in a rush. And that can lead to speeding on the roadways as well as less than courteous drivers.
Charleston city police are urging people to be patient as they travel this holiday season after responding to several incidents of road rage involving guns.
"Tragically, road rage has led to several serious incidents, including a fatal shooting on Savannah Highway in October," police posted on social media.
"Since then, officers have responded to four road rage incidents involving firearms."
Just last week, police say a woman was arrested for pulling a gun in a parking lot on Savannah Highway and a man pointed a firearm at a motorist on I-526. Another man did the same on Savannah Highway earlier this month.
Then, there’s the suspect who opened fired into vehicle just days after Thanksgiving. Fortunately, no was killed in these recent incidents.
"A moment of calm can prevent a lifetime of regret," police said. "If you encounter an aggressive driver, avoid confrontation and call 911 immediately. Let’s work together to make our roads safer for everyone."
And here’s something to think about before you hit the roads. Consumer Affairs reports some 65 percent of drivers carry at least one gun in their car, especially in states like South Carolina where it's legal.
