The West Columbia Riverwalk is set to reopen to the public in September, about a year after suffering damage from Hurricane Helene.
The city of West Columbia shared an update on the Riverwalk’s repair progress on July 1.
The Riverwalk had been closed since September last year, after flooding from the hurricane heavily damaged the trail pathway.
This half-mile long portion begins at the West Columbia amphitheater and connects to the Cayce Riverwalk, which only closed for two months.
The city of Cayce used its own money to repair its Riverwalk, later applying for reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. West Columbia bid out the work after receiving damage approval from FEMA, which resulted in a longer process.
In May, the city announced it approved Crescent Industries, LLC as the bidder for the $201,095 repair project.
The July 1 update said FEMA approved the project, allowing for repairs to begin.
Contractors are expected to begin work on July 14, to repair the section between the amphitheater and Cayce first. That work will take around one month to complete.
Afterward, the section from the Gervais Street Bridge to the Moffatt Street entrance will be repaired, which will also take around one month to finish.
